Here's why exports will make you dance
On the onset, you may think that this image of my two younger sisters (we're actually a family of five girls, no brothers) and I dancing at my sister's wedding (the one pictured in white) has nothing to do with exporting or global trade.
But, I beg to differ.
Give me just a few minutes of your time and I will explain. Plus, I knew it would get your attention . But, let's not digress and continue on now that you're here.
The goal is to start local but finish global.
In all honesty, I hesitated a bit when I selected this picture to pair with my quote because for a second I too was under the same impression. And then, I began to reflect on the day of the wedding this past fall and the vows that my sister and brother-in-love exchanged and got the epiphany I needed to write this post for you.
Without writing a novel, it's actually quite simple yet powerful. Launching a business is typically an exciting endeavor -in the beginning at-least. The thought of identifying a problem in the marketplace and the confidence that you've created the solution is exhilarating. From creating a name for the business to developing the brand and acquiring your first customer is the fuel that keeps the fire burning on this new journey called "entrepreneurship". You would agree, right?
This is similarly true in a relationship. You're in the "marketplace," but in this case for love. You cross paths with someone that you've identified as your "type" - for lack of a better word. You and "your type" begin a relationship full of exploration. Whether this looks like long walks in the park, binging Netflix or going out on group dates, there is a kind of fire that is also burning from inside. For many, like my younger sister, this leads to marriage.
She's made the decision to leave everything she knows and is used to (local) for the possibility of creating a new future with her now spouse; someone from a totally different background, way of being, and thought process (global).
Why would anyone in their right mind want to leave the comfort of what they know (local) to create something new in the unknown (global)?
And that question my friends is probably what most non-exporters are wondering. That is the question that I will explore in my writings, podcasts and video interviews under the phrase "Export to Scale". We will discuss strategies and systems to help business owners take their companies from local to global through exports.
Like my sister deciding to get married; there is a future that is waiting for you to create it. It starts with your decision to export. Exporting is a cause for you to dance because of what's possible for you and your business around the world.
